I was blown away by this piece of work. In my humble opinion, it is not just a good read, it's a must.Medicine Man is a fine blending of a poignant and captivating drama, very engaging storytelling technique and rejuvenating Igbo- African wisdom pasted on top of each chapter. All together it helps to picture very distinctly the economic and social conditions of the local environment. The author vividly captures the details of the environment as they later play a crucial part in forming the identities of the main characters of the story. I was drawn to the main characters who are just 10 years old when the story begins. As the story progresses, they grow up to to know more about the lives of their family members, their friends and their enemies while struggling to position themselves in the society as successful and honest young men. In my view, the tragedy of the individuals is embedded in the societal dichotomy in which the cultural/traditional tissue is torn. In this type of environment any story of individual success can instantly turn into a disaster, each step forward can bring an unexpected fall. In this fragile environment only few survive, and their scars- as their stories- are deep and profound. Liedstrand Nwokocha realised the story to its full potential: the story is fulfilled with a startling and well crafted apex.
The plot, as well as the writing style, is very reader- friendly and helps to create a bond between a reader and the protagonist in no time. The author should have spent an extensive amount of time in polishing the well designed scenes since they come about so naturally. Moreover, the storytelling is like a flow which is deliberatively being turned into different directions of time. I found this untraditional type of storytelling very enjoyable.
I would recommend this book to anyone. It is a great cultural gift to humanity which yields an empathic conversation.

An amazing read taking us into the lives of the 3 young people and how their lives intertwined leading to a fate no one saw coming.
Could not put it down. All the anguish resonated and I loved the pictorial description of Nigerian schools. Moves at a fast, thrilling pace towards the end and finally got to understand how the obviously brilliant young ends up in a dead end job. I really enjoyed this.
