Alaska State Trooper Liam Campbell, newly promoted to corporal, is slowly making a home for himself in the remote town of Newenham. Between DUIs and domestic disputes, life is relatively tranquil, until Campbell's girlfriend, bush pilot Wyanet Chouinard, delivers a shipment of mail to a remote post office, where she finds the postmistress murdered. The hunt is on for a killer who seems to have vanished into the Bush... Until another victim is found. Chilling connections from the past make the search a matter of life and death.
Nothing Gold Can Stay (Audible Audio Edition) Dana Stabenow Marguerite Gavin Brilliance Audio Books
The third book in this series, Nothing Gold Can Stay, is interesting and engaging. Liam is still the state trooper assigned to Newenham; Wy, a bush pilot, is still running her business and (mostly) running away from Liam. When Wy comes upon a murdered post mistress in a small village, Liam comes out to investigate, but is let with few clues But then a remote mining camp issues an SOS, and he discovers a dead man and a missing wife, and he realizes that he is facing a serial killer. This is a solid mystery, an exciting hunt, and engaging romance. The detail about bush Alaska life and flying is accurate and colorfully described. As is generally true of series, a reader who begins with this book will be a bit confused until the characters shed enough back story to make sense. I recommend starting with number one; you'll get here soon enough.

Nothing Gold Can Stay (Audible Audio Edition) Dana Stabenow Marguerite Gavin Brilliance Audio Books Reviews
This review refers to the edition of the book - not sure if the printed version was any different / less sloppy?!!
I downloaded the first 3 books in this series and read them back-to-back in a matter of days and things jumped out at me from this book that apparently the author and the editors missed.... like how Liam shrank 1" in this book - if you're going to make a big deal about how tall your lead guy is, you need to make him a consistent height - how old Charlie was when he died, it was 18 months in the first 2 books but in this book he was 6 months old. Then there was an entire conversation at Wy's place, involving Wy, during the time she was at the fish camp and so not present. Prince flew off from the murder scene, but was mysteriously there having breakfast and then arrived again.
Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy and kind of spoiled the whole book for me. Wondering if the author was actually paying any attention when writing this book or what. Now wondering if i should bother with the 4th. ( Too bad because I am enjoying reading about the Alaska side of things.
Yes I am a huge fan of Dana Stabenow's books because she simply can't write a bad book. I would i would like it if she could write faster as I devour her books as soon as they are available. It's like a visit to Alaska, an enchanting land and people. DAna brings them to life and Liam Campbell is an interesting chaacter. These books are addicting, especially in this world of violence. Not that the books have no violence, but it isn't rubbed into our faces.....it's just there to make a story, and a good one at that.
Dana Stabenow does such a great job with her stories about Alaska life. They're a combination of informative, wistful, fascinating and fun. The stories are always interesting. The characters seem real and well developed. I am nearing the end of the Liam Campbell series and am patiently awaiting the next Kate Shugak story, which means i'm reading slowly to help make the pleasure last. My only regret is that Dana does not write more.
I read this whole series and liked LIam more with each book! This series is great because it gave me insight into people and their culture and places I have never been. The interactions between the main players are real and compelling. Great story lines, too. I enjoyed the whole series and hope there is more to come.
If you're not looking for a little porn with your mysteries, skip this. Someone needs to tell her that we don't need that in there. The romance is right and enjoyable. Characters are well defined... overly defined. She does have a bad tendency to repeat the entire history of every character and situation over and over in each book to the point where it gets annoying but I did like the books. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy her writing but the sex is just over the top and in this particular book, I believe, it's between a 13 yr old and a 17 yr old which nobody seems to find odd or concerning. If that had been my son, charges would have been filed no matter what the situation was.
I found this author with a deal of the day on audible, since that time I have read or listened to everything she has offered up. I have cried, laughed, felt betrayed and experienced every emotion that the author has put out there. The next book if the 6th of may.
Dana Stabenow writes a story that is very human and often gritty. She includes comic moments to offset the realities of life in Alaska's vast landscape. This one was a real gripper. She doesn't hold back on showing how unfair life can be at times. Her characters are rugged--having to be to live in snow and open country. Liam, as strong as he is as an Alaskan State Trooper, continues to be vulnerable when dealing with flying in a small plane or any plane. I have read each Liam Campbell book--am now reading the next in the series. I like the re-occurring characters. I am fascinated by the kind of life they live in Alaska. Dana Stabenow really shows you a picture of how it is. You will be visiting a place that is intriguing, at times amusing and often scary.
