Imagine a computer game so addictive, so accessible and so real that the whole world is playing it. Now imagine that game is the work of the Devil himself.
In Age of Angels -Book 1- The Fallen Angel, Lucifer and his disciples create a computer game called Fallen Angel, with which they hope to enter, enslave and then destroy the world.
The makers of the game use technology to hotwire it directly into the players’ brains so as to control their hearts, minds and souls. Only one player can resist the power of the Fallen Angel, the wheelchair-bound Irish gaming genius Sean O Sullivan (16). Sean is indifferent to the game's allure and prize money and is only interested in beating the system. But the game makers need a winner who will obey them, so they set out to destroy Sean.
After overcoming some early obstacles that almost stop his qualification for the most important event of his life, Sean jets to Los Angeles. Here he participates in the televised finals, being held at the HQ of the Paradise Games Company. Unbeknownst to Sean, Paradise has set in motion more deadly plots. He survives the first attack and joins the 13 finalists who are all now in with a chance to win the Billion $ prize.
Age of Angels Book 1 The Fallen Angel eBook Kevin Flanagan
Kevin Flanagan has managed to cleverly integrate the addictive pull of a computer game with some sharp writing and cliff-hanging tension to bring about what promises to be the first in an entertaining series of books. The story follows wheelchair-bound Sean O'Sulilvan, an Irish teenager who is a whizz at computer games, specifically the one around which the book is written - Fallen Angel.
Flanagan posits an intriguing notion - that of a computer game devised by the devil to ensnare mankind. Only young Sean seems to be immune to its deadly pull.
Our young hero enters the global televised final of The Fallen Angel game, which has a winning prize of one billion dollars... not exactly small change. As he and his fellow contestants immerse themselves in the game they must battle the Fallen Angel demons as well as their own weaknesses in what becomes a draining and, quite literally, soul-destroying saga.
Flanagan writes with flair and I found the game sequences to be particularly effective. He imbues his characters with depth and you soon root for Sean as he overcomes his own physical limitations to become the key player in the game and in the surreptitious plan behind it.
If you like gaming and a devilish read, this might be the one for you.

Age of Angels Book 1 The Fallen Angel eBook Kevin Flanagan Reviews
The Fallen Angel is a must-read. It matches other series like The Hunger Games and His Dark Materials for both wonder and depth but provides a refreshingly original Irish perspective, which of course only makes things better!
Age of Angels achieves a place in that most rare and satisfying of genres - intelligent and engaging sci-fi/fantasy.
Let's hope for many more books in this series.
I really enjoyed this and read it over a few days. It's very topical, about the world of advanced games, about good and evil and about the reality shows all around us.
I recommend this not only to a young adult audience, but to anyone who enjoys an exciting read. The struggle between good and evil is brilliantly done here.
This book is so well written it draws the reader into the story quickly and holds their attention until the exciting end. The only bad part is the suspense at the end because the sequel isn't available yet.
I love the books from K. Flanagan. This book I liked in particular. I used to read all the Harry Potter books while I was younger, and the Age of Angels series reminds me a lot of Haryy Potter. I guess I'm a sucker for adventures and especially the diabolical kind. I wish the books would be translated into Norwegian as I think my nephew (age 12) would really love the story as well!
I have been waiting for this series of books for months from following them on Twitter and I am so glad to be one of the first reviewers as this book was BRILLIANT! It's not that long and I was so engrossed in itI read it in a couple of nights before buying the second book. The main character Sean is adoreable and I hope he finds someone who loves him. I would! There is drama from the start and I hope this series come out soon.
This is a terrific adventure story, and I could really see it becoming another Harry Potter or The Hunger Games in terms of success. It shares some of the best elements with great books like these, but at the same time it is original. You can tell it would make a great videogame or movie. Basically the story involves a wheelchair-bound Irish teenager who wins a place to compete in the world's biggest videogame tournament - where players are immersed in a whole new reality. This "fully immersive reality" allows the author to create a truly compelling and imaginative story, and it never becomes a gimmick or distraction, which it easily could. And there is a twist too - the game is in fact the creation of a dark and sinister force!
The characters are the heart of the book - both Sean and his American playing partner Samantha, as well as an intriguing backup cast of gamers from around the world. And of course the villains are as evil as can be! The only reason I am giving part 1 four stars is that it is really just a set-up for part 2, which gets five. All the characters and intrigue are put in place in this book - and we get some adventure - but the real adventure takes off in book 2 and it is a wild ride!
