Rob Roy Volume 01 edition by Sir Walter Scott Literature Fiction eBooks
I don't quite know what I expected when I started this, but perhaps after reading Red Rob Roy MacGregor comics in my childhood, I thought there would be a lot of bloodshed and ocheye-the-noos. This first volume, however, is set entirely in England and covers the life of a French-educated London banker's son — not, you would think, dramatic fodder. It does, however, set up the tales for volume 02, which admittedly, is not much more violent, but which has more Scottish content. That said, Scott is a consumate story teller, and if he had resisted the urge to use so much phonetic "Scotch" as he calls it, would still be considered the equal of Dickens.
All-in-all, a good and enjoyable read, but not for the phonetically challenged!

Rob Roy Volume 01 edition by Sir Walter Scott Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Ivanhoe is one of my all-time favorites, so I was a little disappointed in this one. Still good, but I feel that Sir Walter Scott can do (and has done) better.
I have enjoyed vol 1 and look forward to vol 2. Although I am surprised at Scott's delay in presenting the Highland robber chief of the title, I am confident that he will not disappoint. And while I am unused to the flowery dialogue, I know that this is an early novel about an earlier time, so that may be realistic.
Not the novel, but an analysis thereof...
This is a most decnt and entertaining story, and also the introduction is most instructive, but I had expected to read a novel starring Rob Roy, as the title suggests, and it didn't meet this expectation. Highly recommended, provided that you know what to expect I suppose.
One of the great novels of all time; Vol. I is only the beginning, and the really exciting parts come later. However , Vol. I includes the greatest part of the immortal Diana Vernon's conversation, which alone is worth the price of the book.
The story while in essence very contrived is redeemed by the delicate use of delightful dialogue. The character of Diana is skilfully honed to present her as a universal model of femininity. She towers above her male co-characters and imbues them with deserved frailties - a heroine out of time and context
This is the first volume of Rob Roy. It drags out worse than a Bronte Novel, but you cannot read Vol.02 without it. This sets the tone and backdrop for the Vol 02.
Still, a patient reader will be rewarded with a good story, and the joy of the English Letters writ with grace, poise, form & precision(something much lost in circa 2013 writers).
